One muscle, two reasons to treat it
The masseter is the chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw. Relax it with a small amount of Botox, Dysport or Xeomin and two things change: the jawline softens, and the jaw stops working overtime.
Jawline slimming
A square or overdeveloped jaw is often muscle, not bone. As the masseter relaxes it slims, and the lower face settles into a softer, more tapered shape. The change builds gradually over a few months, so it reads as you, not as work done.
Clenching and grinding
Many people clench through the day or grind at night without knowing it, until the jaw aches in the morning. Easing the masseter takes the force out of the habit, and the TMJ tension and morning jaw ache that come with it.

If you clench, the temporalis at the temple often works alongside the masseter. Dr. Alex, DNP, looks at both, and will suggest treating the temple too only when it will help.

A few precise injection points into each masseter, dosed side by side — most jaws are not symmetrical. The injections themselves take only minutes.

Masseter Botox is charged by the unit, and a large muscle like the masseter takes more units than a line on the forehead. Dr. Alex, DNP, sets the dose for each side at the consultation, after feeling how the muscle works — which is why we do not publish a price that would only be a guess. You will have an exact figure before anything is drawn up.
Will it slim my jaw, or help with clenching?
It can do both. A small amount placed in the masseter, the chewing muscle at the angle of the jaw, softens a square or overdeveloped jawline into a slimmer, more tapered shape. It also eases the clenching and grinding behind TMJ tension and morning jaw ache. Dr. Alex, DNP, will tell you at your consultation whether your jawline is muscle that will respond.
How soon will I see results, and how long do they last?
Clenching usually eases first, within about two weeks. The slimming is slower: it builds gradually over a few months as the muscle relaxes. Masseter results typically last four to six months, longer than expression lines on the face.
How many units will I need?
More than for expression lines, because the masseter is a large, strong muscle — and the right number often differs from one side to the other. Dr. Alex, DNP, doses each side from how it feels and works on the day, erring on the side of less; it is easy to add a few units at a follow-up, and impossible to take them back.
Will it change my smile or how I chew?
Your smile stays yours: the masseter closes the jaw, it does not move the mouth. You will eat normally. Some people notice that very tough or chewy food tires the jaw a little sooner for the first few weeks — that is the muscle relaxing as intended.
Botox, Dysport or Xeomin — which one will I get?
All three are available in Miami, and all three relax the masseter the same way. Dr. Alex, DNP, will recommend one for you at the consultation — and if you have a favourite from past treatments, say so.
Can I drive myself home afterwards?
Yes — most people drive straight home or back to work. For the rest of the day, avoid lying flat, rubbing the treated areas and hard exercise; the small raised bumps at the injection points usually settle within the hour, well before you are back on Biscayne. Bruising is always possible with injectables, so plan treatment at least two weeks before an important event.

It is. Dr. Alex, DNP, sees patients in Miami on scheduled days, so appointments are booked in advance rather than walk-in — book online, or call and we will find you the next available day. Booking ahead also means your visit is unhurried, with time set aside for the consultation itself.
