Why Prevention Is the Real Luxury: The BGA Approach to BOTOX® & Neuromodulators

The most elevated approach to aesthetics isn't waiting until something bothers you enough to fix it. It's knowing how to preserve what you already have.

As the founder of Blonde Girl Aesthetics®, one of the biggest things I try to teach my patients is that aesthetic medicine doesn't always have to be corrective.

Some of the best results come from what we prevent.

BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® are most commonly known for softening wrinkles, but when I use neuromodulators thoughtfully, I'm also thinking about how that patient's face is going to age over time.

My philosophy has never been about changing someone's face, eliminating every line, or chasing perfection.

It's about preserving what already makes you beautiful and helping you age intentionally.

At BGA, prevention doesn't mean doing more.

It means knowing what to do, when to do it — and when to leave something alone.

That's why I always say:

“Prevention is the real luxury.” — Dr. Alexandra Teixeira, DNP, Founder of Blonde Girl Aesthetics®

Think of Your Skin Like a Piece of Paper

One of my favorite ways to explain dynamic and static lines to patients is with a simple piece of paper.

Imagine folding a fresh piece of paper once and opening it back up.

You may see a faint line where you folded it, but the paper is still relatively smooth.

Now fold that exact same spot again.

And again.

And again.

Every time you fold it, that crease becomes more defined — until eventually, you don't need to fold the paper at all to see exactly where that line lives.

Our skin can behave in a similar way.

Every time you smile, squint, frown, or raise your eyebrows, the muscles underneath your skin contract and repeatedly fold the skin in the same areas.

At first, those lines may only appear while you're making the expression. We call these dynamic lines.

When your face relaxes, they disappear.

But after years of repeatedly folding the skin along the same lines, those creases can become more established. Eventually, you may begin seeing the line even when your face is completely relaxed.

Those are static lines.

This is one of the main reasons I believe so strongly in thoughtful prevention.

Neuromodulators such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® temporarily reduce activity in specifically targeted muscles. By decreasing how strongly and repeatedly the skin folds in certain areas, we can soften dynamic lines and may help slow their progression into deeper, more established lines.

The goal isn't to eliminate every fold. It's to prevent the crease from becoming unnecessarily deep.

I want my patients to understand the difference between simply correcting what they see today and thinking about what they want to preserve for tomorrow.

At BGA, I'm thinking about both.

“Dr. Alex, When Should I Start BOTOX®?”

This is one of the most common questions patients ask me.

And my answer is always:

There isn't one specific age.

I don't treat birthdays.

I treat anatomy.

Two people can be exactly the same age and have completely different muscle strength, facial movement, skin quality, genetics, expression patterns, and aesthetic goals.

One patient may begin developing strong expression lines in their 20s. Another patient may have very little movement-related aging well into their 30s or beyond.

Preventative aesthetics should never mean treating someone simply because they've reached a certain age.

When I assess a patient at Blonde Girl Aesthetics®, I look at the face both at rest and in motion.

I'm evaluating where the skin folds, how strongly the muscles contract, whether lines remain when the face relaxes, eyebrow position, proportions, asymmetries, and how the facial muscles are working together.

And sometimes my recommendation is:

You don't need it yet.

That's important.

I believe knowing when not to treat is just as important as knowing how to treat.

“I don't treat a number on your driver's license. I treat the anatomy sitting in front of me.” — Dr. Alex, DNP

My Approach: Natural Doesn't Mean Untreated

There is still a major misconception that BOTOX® automatically means a frozen forehead or an expressionless face.

That's not the aesthetic I believe in.

My approach at Blonde Girl Aesthetics® is:

Conservative. Intentional. Personalized.

I don't believe every forehead needs to be perfectly smooth.

I don't believe every patient should receive the same number of units.

And I don't believe using the smallest amount of product automatically creates the most natural result.

There is an important difference between conservative treatment and undertreatment.

If a patient has a strong muscle, that muscle may still require an appropriate dose. The goal isn't to use the fewest units possible.

The goal is to use the right amount, in the right place, for the right patient.

The muscles of the face work together. Treating one muscle can affect the movement and position of another, which is why good neuromodulator treatment requires much more than simply injecting wherever you see a wrinkle.

This is also why I feel so strongly about provider assessment.

Restraint is part of good aesthetic medicine — but so is knowing when treatment is actually needed.

My favorite result isn't when someone looks at one of my patients and asks:

“Where did you get your BOTOX®?”

It's when they say:

“You look so good.”

Maybe they look more rested.

Maybe their face looks softer.

Maybe they simply look like themselves after a really good week.

Natural aesthetic work shouldn't be the first thing someone notices about you.

You should be the first thing they notice.

That's exactly what You, but better. means to me.

Why Dysport® Is My Go-To Neuromodulator at BGA

BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® are all botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators, but their formulations and dosing differ — and patients can respond differently to each.

At Blonde Girl Aesthetics®, Dysport® is my preferred neuromodulator and the product I reach for most often.

I love its typically quick onset, the smooth and natural-looking results I can create with it, and the excellent longevity I see in many of my patients. In my clinical experience, some patients also find their Dysport® results last longer than with other neuromodulators they've previously tried.

BOTOX® is still the most widely recognized name in this category, thanks in large part to its long history and extensive consumer marketing. It has become so recognizable that patients often use the word “BOTOX” to describe neuromodulator treatments in general — even when they're actually receiving another product.

XEOMIN® offers another formulation and is made without the accessory proteins found in some other botulinum toxin products.

While Dysport® is my go-to, product selection at BGA is always intentional and provider-led.

I determine which neuromodulator I believe is most appropriate based on the patient's anatomy, muscle strength, treatment history, previous response, goals, and my clinical assessment.

I don't choose a product because it's the most recognizable or because it's trending. I choose what I believe is going to give my patient the best result.

Prevention Is Bigger Than BOTOX®

Another thing I tell my patients all the time:

BOTOX® doesn't replace good skin.

Neuromodulators address muscle movement.

They don't replace daily SPF, medical-grade skincare, collagen support, healthy skin habits, or treatments designed to improve the quality of the skin itself.

That's why I don't look at one wrinkle in isolation.

I'm looking at the face and skin as a whole.

For one patient, prevention may include Dysport®.

For another, the priority may be medical-grade skincare, microneedling, a chemical peel, or a collagen-stimulating treatment.

Often, it's a thoughtful combination of treatments performed over time.

I don't believe aesthetic longevity is created in one appointment.

It's built through intentional decisions made consistently.

BOTOX®, Dysport® & XEOMIN® FAQs with Dr. Alex

What areas can neuromodulators treat?

Depending on your anatomy, product selected, and candidacy, neuromodulators can be used to address concerns including forehead lines, frown lines or “11s,” crow's feet, bunny lines, brow positioning, lip flips, gummy smiles, chin dimpling, downturned corners of the mouth, masseter muscles, and platysmal bands.

Certain treatment areas may represent off-label uses depending on the specific product.

My philosophy is simple:

Just because something can be injected doesn't mean it should be.

The treatment areas I recommend are based on your individual anatomy and clinical assessment.

How long do BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® last?

Many patients experience neuromodulator results for approximately three to four months, although duration varies based on the product, dose, treatment area, muscle strength, metabolism, and individual response.

I don't believe in retreating a patient simply because a certain number of weeks have passed.

At BGA, I look at your returning movement and reassess your anatomy before determining when it's appropriate to treat again.

What is “Baby BOTOX®”?

“Baby BOTOX®” is an informal term commonly used to describe more conservative neuromodulator dosing.

But fewer units don't automatically equal a more natural result.

If you have a strong muscle, using too little product may simply mean undertreating it.

I prefer to focus on appropriate dosing based on your anatomy, rather than trendy terminology.

Can BOTOX® or Dysport® get rid of a deep wrinkle?

It depends on the type of line.

Dynamic lines that occur primarily with facial movement often respond well to neuromodulators.

Static lines that remain visible when your face is relaxed may soften after treatment, but deeply established creases may not completely disappear with a neuromodulator alone.

Think back to that piece of paper.

Once you've folded the same crease repeatedly for years, simply stopping the folding doesn't immediately make the paper brand new again.

That's exactly why I talk to my patients so much about prevention.

What's the difference between BOTOX® and filler?

They're completely different tools.

BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity.

Dermal fillers are injectable gels used to restore or enhance volume, contour, proportion, or structural support in selected areas.

Neither treatment is inherently “better.”

They solve different problems, and I recommend them based on what I believe your anatomy actually needs.

How much does neuromodulator treatment cost?

The cost of treatment depends on the product selected, treatment areas, and amount of product required.

I don't believe every patient should receive a predetermined number of units.

Your treatment plan is based on your anatomy, muscle strength, treatment goals, and my clinical assessment. Recommended treatment and pricing are always reviewed before proceeding.

Prevention Is the Real Luxury

The future of aesthetics isn't about doing more.

It's about doing better.

It's protecting your skin before damage becomes difficult to reverse.

It's supporting collagen before significant loss occurs.

It's softening repetitive movement before every expression becomes permanently etched into your skin.

And perhaps most importantly, it's choosing a provider who knows when to treat — and when to leave something alone.

I founded Blonde Girl Aesthetics® around that philosophy.

My approach to BOTOX®, Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and aesthetic medicine as a whole is rooted in anatomy, education, prevention, safety, and conservative treatment.

I don't believe my job is to make you look like someone else.

My job is to help you preserve the best version of yourself.

That's why prevention is the real luxury.

And that's what I mean when I say:

You, but better.
